How to Filter Reddit Posts by Flair (Complete 2026 Guide)
Reddit has no native flair filter. Here's how to block posts by flair label using Ultimate Reddit Filter — with the exact text you need to enter and how to find flairs you haven't seen yet.
Last updated May 26, 2026
Reddit has no native flair filter. To block posts by flair, install Ultimate Reddit Filter, open its Flair Filters tab, and paste the exact flair text you want hidden (e.g., "Politics", "Rant"). Posts with that flair disappear from your feed immediately. As of May 2026, this is the only working approach — Reddit Enhancement Suite supports flair filtering too but is in maintenance mode.

TL;DR
- Reddit has no built-in flair filter — you need an extension.
- Best tool: Ultimate Reddit Filter (free, Chrome + Firefox).
- Flair matching requires the exact flair label text — case-insensitive, but spelling must match.
- Filter multiple flairs simultaneously; no limit on how many you can add.
- Doesn’t work in the official Reddit app — use Kiwi Browser (Android) or Orion (iOS).
Why Reddit has no native flair filter
Reddit lets you click any flair to browse posts with that flair in a subreddit. That’s viewing by flair, not filtering it out. There is no “hide posts with this flair” button anywhere in Reddit’s interface.
Flair is a moderator-assigned or user-assigned tag that categorizes posts. It’s entirely subreddit-specific — r/worldnews uses “Breaking News” and “Analysis”; r/relationship_advice uses “Serious”, “Rant”, “Need Advice”. Reddit treats flair as navigation metadata, not filterable content.
As of May 2026, the only way to hide posts by flair is a browser extension.
How to set up flair filtering
Step 1 — Install Ultimate Reddit Filter
Install from the Chrome Web Store — also available for Firefox.
Step 2 — Find the exact flair text
Before you can filter a flair, you need its exact text. Two ways to get it:
Method A — hover on an existing post On reddit.com, hover over the flair tag on any post. The full flair label text appears. Copy it.
Method B — browse the subreddit’s flair list Many subreddits let you filter by flair from the sidebar (look for “Filter by flair” in the sidebar or the subreddit menu). This shows all available flairs in one place.
Common examples of flairs worth filtering:
Politics/Political(r/worldnews, r/news)Rant(relationship subreddits)Shitpost(gaming subreddits)Drama(multiple communities)Serious(r/AskReddit, r/relationship_advice — filters out casual posts if you want only serious content, or vice versa)Breaking News(r/worldnews)
Step 3 — Add to Ultimate Reddit Filter’s flair blocklist
Click the Ultimate Reddit Filter icon in your browser toolbar. Open the Flair Filters tab. Paste each flair label you want blocked, one per line:
Politics
Rant
Breaking News
Shitpost
Click Save.
Step 4 — Verify
Scroll the subreddit where you added the flair filter. Posts with those flairs should no longer appear. If a flair still shows, check for:
- Extra spaces before or after the text
- Different capitalization (though URF matching is case-insensitive)
- A subreddit using a slightly different flair text than you captured
Does Reddit Enhancement Suite support flair filtering?
Yes, but RES is in maintenance mode as of 2022. The filterline feature in RES supports flair-based filtering using the syntax flair:text. It works in May 2026, but RES receives no new features and bug fixes are infrequent.
For a tool in active development, Ultimate Reddit Filter is the better choice. See Reddit Enhancement Suite alternatives for the full comparison.
Flair filtering vs keyword filtering: when to use each
Flair filtering is more surgical. If r/AskReddit posts tagged “Serious” aren’t what you want, filtering the flair removes all of them without touching the post title at all. No false positives from unrelated posts that happen to mention the word.
Keyword filtering is better when:
- The content you want to avoid appears across many subreddits without consistent flair
- No flair is assigned, or flair is inconsistently used
- You want to filter specific topics that don’t correspond to subreddit-defined categories
The two approaches work together. Many users run both: flair filters to eliminate entire post categories cleanly, and keyword filters to catch specific terms the flair misses.

Mobile: flair filtering on Android and iOS
Flair filtering does not work in the official Reddit app. The same extension-dependency limitation applies as with keyword filtering — browser extensions run in browsers, not native apps.
Android: Install Kiwi Browser + Ultimate Reddit Filter. Flair filters work identically to desktop.
iOS: Install Orion Browser + Ultimate Reddit Filter. Same result.
