Strengths
- ✓ Filters by keyword, flair, AND subreddit — all three axes in one extension
- ✓ Works on old Reddit, new Reddit (sh.reddit), and compact layouts
- ✓ Filters comments as well as posts — catches political subthreads under apolitical posts
- ✓ Relabel mode hides content behind custom text instead of removing it entirely
- ✓ Actively maintained — last updated April 28, 2026
- ✓ Import / export keyword lists for backup or sharing
- ✓ Zero data collection — all settings stored locally
Weaknesses
- ✕ Smaller install base than RES — less community Q&A on niche issues
- ✕ Configuration UI is functional but not polished
- ✕ Mobile only via Chromium-based browsers that support extensions (Kiwi, Yandex, Orion)
Best for
Anyone who wants to keep using Reddit but block specific topics across keywords, flair, and subreddits
Ultimate Reddit Filter is the most fully-featured standalone Reddit filtering extension as of May 2026 — the only actively-developed free tool that filters by keyword, flair, AND subreddit, and the only one that extends filtering to comments. Install it when you want to keep using Reddit but make one or more topics disappear from your feed.

What URF does well
- All three filtering axes. Title keyword, flair label, and subreddit name — most Reddit filters only do one or two. URF does all three in the same rules engine.
- Reaches the comments. Political subthreads in r/news, sports takes under random TIL posts, AITA-style drama in unrelated subs — URF will catch them if you tell it what to look for.
- Relabel instead of hide. Optional soft-filtering mode replaces the post title with text you choose (“filtered: politics”) so you know something was hidden without seeing what.
- Import/export. Your keyword list survives reinstalls, browser changes, and machine moves.
- No telemetry. Settings live in
chrome.storage.local— nothing leaves your browser.
What URF doesn’t do
- Sync across devices. Each install is its own configuration. Use the export/import flow to copy lists between machines manually.
- Native mobile. No iOS Safari extension and no Android app. Mobile users need a browser that supports Chrome extensions (Kiwi, Yandex on Android; Orion on iOS).
- Pretty UI. The configuration panel is functional but utilitarian.
Best for
Anyone whose Reddit problem is topic-shaped rather than time-shaped — you want to keep using Reddit, you just want one or more topics gone. If your problem is “I open Reddit too often,” install a distraction blocker instead.
Setup in 60 seconds
- Install from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
- Click the extension icon. Open the Keywords tab.

- (Optional) Switch to the Subreddits tab and add subreddits to hide entirely.
- (Optional) Switch to the Flair tab and add flair labels (e.g. “Politics”, “NSFW”).
