What RES does well

  • Breadth. Filters are one feature of dozens. User tagging, account switching, custom subreddit stylesheets, inline image expansion, keyboard shortcuts, never-ending reddit, comment navigation — all in one extension.
  • Regex-capable filtering. Power users can write expressions, not just keyword lists.
  • Decade of documentation. Every odd behavior is already answered on Stack Overflow, r/Enhancement, or a forum somewhere.
  • Cross-browser. Among the few Reddit extensions that ship for Safari.

What RES doesn’t do (anymore)

  • Receive new features. The project entered “life support” in 2022. Two volunteers ship bug fixes; nothing else.
  • Guarantee long-term compatibility. When Reddit ships UI changes, RES has historically broken for days or weeks before a patch ships.
  • Stay light. It’s a 2 MB extension with hundreds of toggles. If all you want is filtering, the install cost is disproportionate.
