Why this requires an extension

As of May 2026, Reddit provides no native keyword blacklist. Muting a subreddit only prevents posts from that subreddit appearing in r/all — it doesn’t filter Elon-related posts in subreddits you actively follow. An extension is the only way to filter post titles by keyword across all subreddits.

The setup

1. Install Ultimate Reddit Filter

Install from Chrome Web Store — also available for Firefox.

2. Paste the keyword preset

Click the extension icon → Keywords tab → paste all of the following:

3. Block the highest-volume Elon subreddits

Go to the Subreddits tab and add:

elonmusk

Adding these prevents Elon-focused posts from appearing in r/all and r/popular regardless of keyword matching.

4. Enable comment filtering and test

Settings → Filter comments too. Go to reddit.com and scroll r/all. Any remaining posts mentioning Elon are likely in post bodies rather than titles — this is normal for keyword-only filtering.

Tuning for false positives

tesla will catch some legitimate posts about the inventor Nikola Tesla. If you read history content, remove tesla and instead add tesla stock, tesla recall, tesla cybertruck, tesla fire, tesla crash as individual terms.

doge will catch unrelated Dogecoin posts. If you want only DOGE (the government department) filtered, replace doge department with department of government efficiency — more specific, fewer false positives.

What this won’t do

This filter hides posts from your visible feed. It does not block notifications from subreddits you follow, does not work in the official Reddit iOS or Android app, and does not prevent Musk-related posts from appearing in Reddit search results.

Going further
