Best for
People who've tried keyword filtering and the feed still pulls them in — the nuclear option for every social platform at once
News Feed Eradicator is a free, open-source browser extension that removes the algorithmic feed from Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, Reddit, LinkedIn, and Instagram, replacing each with an inspirational quote. As of May 2026 it remains the single most-installed nuclear feed-removal tool. Install it when you want to keep using a platform's utility (messaging, search, posting) but eliminate the doomscroll entirely.

What NFE does well
- Covers every major platform in a single install. One extension; eight or more feeds gone.
- Per-site control. Don’t want the feed gone on YouTube? Toggle YouTube off, leave Twitter on.
- Replaces the feed with a quote rather than just hiding it. The visual emptiness is the point — there’s nothing left to scroll.
- Free, open source, no telemetry. Code on GitHub.
What NFE doesn’t do
- Keyword filtering. It’s all-or-nothing per platform. If you want to keep Reddit but block politics, you want Ultimate Reddit Filter instead.
- Friction or lockouts. You can disable it in two clicks. NFE works by removing temptation, not by locking you out.
- Mobile. Browser extension only. NFE doesn’t cover the native iOS/Android apps.
- Snooze. The per-site temporary-disable was removed in the 2025 redesign — a sore point for long-term users.
Best for
People who’ve tried keyword filters and the feed still pulls them in. NFE is the next step up in aggression: don’t filter the feed, eliminate the feed.
Setup in 60 seconds
- Install from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
- Open any social site. The feed is already gone.
- Click the NFE icon to toggle per-site enable/disable.
- (Optional) replace the default quotes with your own list in the settings.
Alternatives
- Social Feed Blocker — modern NFE-style fork with Shorts/Reels blocking and a “things you missed” counter.
- Unhook — YouTube-specific, more granular toggles (homepage, sidebar, Shorts independently).
- Ultimate Reddit Filter — keyword-level for Reddit specifically, not nuclear.
