TL;DR
- Reddit has no native topic filter — you need an extension.
- Best tool: Ultimate Reddit Filter (free, Chrome + Firefox).
- Use both keyword blocks and subreddit blocks for full coverage.
- The preset below covers Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs, DeFi, memecoins, and trading slang.
Why Reddit’s own filters aren’t enough
As of May 2026, Reddit’s native options are limited to muting individual subreddits and toggling NSFW content. There is no native keyword filter, no topic filter, and no way to say “hide all cryptocurrency content.” Crypto posts dominate r/all via multiple dedicated subreddits and bleed into general finance, tech, and investing subs. A keyword extension is the only reliable solution.
The setup
1. Install Ultimate Reddit Filter
Free, open source, actively maintained as of April 2026. Chrome and Firefox.
2. Paste the crypto keyword preset
Extension icon → Keywords tab → paste:
bitcoin
btc
crypto
cryptocurrency
ethereum
eth
solana
sol
dogecoin
doge
shiba
inu
defi
nft
blockchain
web3
dao
token
altcoin
satoshi
coinbase
binance
hodl
bull run
bear market
memecoin
airdrop
staking
mining
yield farming
degen
rug pull
to the moon
crypto crash
pump and dump
whale alert
These are substring matches — bitcoin catches “Bitcoin,” “anti-Bitcoin,” “post-Bitcoin,” etc.
3. Block the crypto subreddits
Subreddits tab → add:
r/CryptoCurrency
r/Bitcoin
r/ethereum
r/dogecoin
r/NFT
r/CryptoMoonShots
r/SatoshiStreetBets
r/defi
r/solana
r/binance
r/CryptoCurrencyTrading
r/Crypto_com
Leave r/investing and r/personalfinance in place — they’re mostly stock/savings-focused, not crypto-heavy, though you may see occasional crypto threads.
4. Enable comment filtering
Settings → Filter comments too. Crypto debates migrate into comment threads of stock posts, news posts, and even gaming posts. Comment filtering catches them.
5. Reload and verify
Browse r/all for sixty seconds. If crypto content still appears, note the title pattern and add the specific keyword (e.g. ethereum 2.0, solana network, specific coin names you’re seeing).
Tuning the preset
Too aggressive? Remove mining (catches legitimate articles), token (catches non-crypto uses), and dao (common acronym in other contexts). Start with the core 15 terms and add back as needed.
Not aggressive enough? Add specific coin names you’re still seeing: cardano, ada, xrp, ripple, polygon, matic, avalanche, avax, polkadot, dot, chainlink, link.
Going nuclear
If the preset still lets too much through — common because crypto communities post across general subreddits — step up to News Feed Eradicator. It removes the Reddit homepage feed entirely while keeping subreddit browsing intact.
What this won’t do
- Won’t filter image posts where the crypto topic isn’t in the title. A meme with “moon” in the image but not the post title gets through. Adding the subreddit blocks handles most of these.
- Won’t work on the Reddit mobile app. The official app doesn’t support extensions. On Android use Kiwi or Yandex browser; on iOS use Orion.
- Won’t block crypto-adjacent content in general finance subs unless keywords match post titles. If r/investing has a “Bitcoin ETF” thread,
bitcoinin the keyword list will catch it.
If it’s not working
- Specific coin still appearing? Add its ticker symbol and full name as separate keywords (
solanaandsol, cardanoandada). - Comments still showing crypto debates? Re-check that “Filter comments too” is enabled in the Settings tab.
- r/all still heavy with crypto? Add the specific subreddit to your Subreddits blocklist — some crypto communities have unusual names that aren’t obvious.

Crypto posts with only images or memes may not contain keywords in the title. Blocking r/CryptoCurrency and the other main crypto subreddits at the subreddit level catches most image-only posts. Also add current trending coin names — new tokens change frequently.
