How to Filter Elon Musk Posts on Twitter/X (2026)
Whether you follow him or not, Elon Musk posts dominate the Twitter/X For You feed in 2026. Here's how to get him out of your timeline using native muting, the Following tab, and browser tools.
Last updated May 31, 2026
The fastest fix: tap Following instead of For You at the top of your Twitter/X home screen — this switches to a chronological feed of accounts you chose to follow and immediately removes all algorithmically injected Elon Musk content. For a deeper filter: mute @elonmusk directly, and add "Elon Musk", "elon", "@elonmusk" to Settings → Privacy and safety → Mute and block → Muted Words (set to Forever). For complete feed removal, install News Feed Eradicator.

The specific problem with Elon Musk on Twitter/X
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022 and rebranded it to X. Since then, independent analyses of tweet impressions have documented that his posts receive view counts far exceeding what organic reach from his follower base would produce. The For You algorithm surfaces his content to users who don’t follow him at rates significantly higher than comparable accounts.
This is the most common specific complaint about Twitter/X’s feed in 2026: “I don’t follow him but I see his posts constantly.”
Here’s how to fix it.
Fix 1: Switch to Following (removes algorithmic injection entirely)
The root cause of seeing him without following him is the For You algorithm. Turn it off.
Tap “Following” at the top of your Home screen.
You now see only accounts you explicitly follow, in order. His posts don’t appear unless you follow him. This is the highest-leverage single action — it fixes the problem at the source rather than playing whack-a-mole with keywords.
Limitation: doesn’t persist between app sessions on mobile. You have to tap it each time you open the app. On desktop, it persists per browser session.
Fix 2: Mute his account
If you do follow him, or if you want belt-and-suspenders protection for the Following tab:
- Go to x.com/elonmusk.
- Click the ··· button next to the Follow/Following button.
- Click “Mute @elonmusk”.
His posts disappear from your timeline immediately. No notification is sent.
Fix 3: Muted words for mentions and quote tweets
Account muting doesn’t catch posts about him — people quoting his tweets, arguing about his statements, or mentioning his name. For those:
Settings → Privacy and safety → Mute and block → Muted words → +
Add each of these as separate entries (Duration: Forever, Home timeline: checked):
Elon Muskelon musk@elonmuskElon
This hides posts containing any of these strings from your Home timeline.
Fix 4: Mute the heavy retweeters
Check your Following feed for accounts that frequently retweet or quote-tweet his posts. Mute them individually:
··· on their tweet → Mute @username
Five well-chosen mutes here will catch more content than any keyword list.
Fix 5: News Feed Eradicator
If you want to use Twitter/X for DMs or specific searches without encountering his content at all, News Feed Eradicator removes the Home timeline entirely.
DMs, notifications, search, and profile pages all continue to work normally.
Install News Feed Eradicator — free, Chrome and Firefox.

- Done. If his content still surfaces in a week, mute the specific accounts in your Following feed who quote-tweet him most.

Twitter/X's algorithm — which Elon Musk owns and has modified since his 2022 acquisition — has been observed to amplify his posts to a significantly larger audience than would be typical based on follower-to-view ratio alone. This is well-documented in platform analytics. The For You algorithm injects his content whether you follow him or not. Switching to the Following tab is the most effective fix because it removes all algorithmic injection entirely.
